The course is available as training in Illustrator CS2, CS3 or CS4 and can be adapted to your own or your companies need.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for learners who have little or no experience using Adobe Illustrator and for students who may have used it in the past and are in need of a thorough refresher course. Graphic designers, web designers and anyone who needs to design using vectors will all find this course can enhance their skills.
Prerequisites
It is essential that you have basic computer skills and are comfortable using a computer to do basic tasks such as file and folder management. Everything else to do with Illustrator you will learn in the course, but we do not have time to show you computer basics.
About the course:
All our courses are very practical and hands-on. For this course we cover a lot, starting from scratch and move up to a good intermediate level.
As a general guide, the following lessons are covered (please note that we can adapt courses for your own needs):
Lesson 1: Getting to Know the Work Area
In this lesson we’ll look at the tools and toolbar, the palettes, how to customise your work area and where to get help when you’re stuck!
Lesson 2: Selecting and Aligning
We’ll look at the tools available for selecting paths and objects and how to align them.
Lesson 3: Creating and Editing Shapes
We’ll look at how to create and set up a variety of documents, how to work with basic shapes, how to combine objects and how to use Live Trace to create paths.
Lesson 4: Transforming Objects
In this lesson we’ll learn how to position objects precisely and how to transform paths and objects.
Lesson 5: Drawing with the Pen and Pencil Tools
The pen tool is the often the most feared and avoided tool for beginners. After this lesson, you’ll be drawing like a pro.
Lesson 6: Colour & Painting
In this lesson, you’ll learn about colour in Illustrator, how to create your own colours and how to paint with gradients and patterns.
Lesson 7: Working with Type
Illustrator’s type tools are superb. In this lesson we’ll look at the type tools, how to set up type flow, formatting type and saving and using styles.
Lesson 8: Working With Layers
Layers are without doubt one of the most imporant features of Adobe Illustrator and an understanding of how they work are essential to efficient use of the program and also for creating interesting and complex images. We’ll look at the layers palette in detail and work through a practical example of a graphic using many layers.
