Illustration: Pioneer

This is an illustration I did for Illustration Friday and for self promotion purposes a couple of months ago and only submitted it recently. The topic was “Pioneer” and I based mine on the idea of an Aer Lingus air hostess. I probably should have left out the text, that’s the graphic designer in me but I suppose it explains about our national airline and its history of flying across the Atlantic between Ireland and the States. I’m thinking I should have hand lettered the text, but anyway…

It’s fair to say that the style of this illustration is heavily influenced by a few of my favourite illustrators, namely M.Sasek, Steve Mack, Bernice Myers and Linzie Hunter. I’m still trying to find my feet in terms of style, but getting there. The problem I find is I want to try everything.

Based heavily on the 1940′s photograph VJ Day in Times Square here’s my entry for this week’s Illustration Friday topic – celebrate. It’s a mixture of vector drawing, scanned in textures and a photoshop fireworks brush by Jannes.
