Adobe Photoshop is the premiere image editing software used by design professionals around the world for countless applications. Photographers, graphic and web designers use Photoshop for its powerful digital imaging and photography tools. It is a huge program and a lot of fun to use but some of it’s concepts are complex. That’s where I come in! With over ten years classroom experience of teaching Photoshop, I can help guide learners through the obstacles by teaching using practical examples.

The “Photoshop Essentials” course is a thorough course for beginners taking you from scratch up to a strong intermediate level over two days. Please note I can adapt the course to suit your needs.

The course is available as training in Photoshop CS2, CS3 or CS4 and can be adapted to your own or your company’s needs.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for students who have little or no experience using Adobe Photoshop or for students who may have used it in the past and are in need of a thorough refresher course. Graphic designers, photographers, web designers will all find this course can enhance their skills.

Prerequisites
It is essential that you have basic computer skills and are comfortable using a computer to do basic tasks such as file and folder management. Everything else to do with Photoshop you will learn in the course.

About the course:
This course is very practical and hands-on and we cover a lot, starting from scratch and move up to a good intermediate level.

As a general guide the following lessons are covered:

Lesson 1. Getting to Know the Work Area
In this lesson we’ll look at the tools and toolbar, the palettes, how to customise your work area and where to get help when you’re stuck!

Lesson 2: Basic Photo Corrections
We’ll look at a standard strategy for retouching images, learn about resolution and image size as well as making adjustments to dramatically improve photographs and images.

Lesson 3. Working with Selections
Selections in Photoshop allow you to isolate areas of an image to work on, while protecting other parts of the image. We’ll look at practical uses of many of the selection tools available.

Lesson 4. Getting Started With Layers
Layers are without doubt one of the most imporant features of Photoshop and an understanding of how they work are essential to efficient use of the program and also for creating interesting and complex images. We’ll look at the layers palette in detail and work through a practical example of a graphic using many layers.

Lesson 5. Retouching and Repairing Photographs
Retouching and repairing is certainly one of the most fun aspects of using Photoshop and for professional photographers it is an essential skill. In this lesson we look at the Clone Stamp Tool, the Spot Healing Brush Tool, the Healing Brush Tool, the Patch Tool and how to use layers to improve your retouching.

Lesson 6. Working With Type
Photoshop has excellent type tools. We’ll use the Type tools, the tool options bar and the character and paragraph palettes.

Lesson 7: Masks & Channels
In this lesson we’ll cover Quick Mask which are used to make more precise selections, alpha channels which allow you to save your selections and clipping and layer masks which allow you to create more sophisiticated images.

Lesson 8: Outputting & Presenting Your Work
To finish up the course, we’ll look at how to save files for the web or for print and how to create a PDF presentation.
