Illustrations created for the story of Fionn & The Dragon, published as part of the Primary School Irish book in Ireland by Folens. The Fionn in question is the mythical Irish hunter Fionn mac Cumhaill, also known in English as Finn MacCool.  The work involved creating six full colour scenes (two of which you can see below), six black and white line drawings for colouring and several colour activities. The illustrations will be used in the printed book, electronic resources and classroom posters. My initial drawings of Fionn were deemed too wimpy so I sent him to the gym and beefed him up a bit. Any resemblance to the lovely actor Chris Helmsworth is purely coincidental. The initial drawings of the dragon were also thought to be too cute – probably more Pete’s Dragon than Smaug, so now he appears as the scary beast you see below. I just hope he’s not too frightening now.
