The excellent Drawger blog has a treat for anyone interested in cartoons and how to illustrated them. The complete FRANK TASHLIN’S HOW TO CREATE CARTOONS, published in 1952 is available to view and download from the site. Each page is a scan from the book and has useful information for anyone interested in image making, not just cartoonists. Tashlin teaches readers how to use the draw using SCOTart technique. SCOTart stands for Square Circle Oval Triangle art. The idea being, if you can draw those shapes you can draw anything. It is of course, a brilliantly simple idea and one which he used during a long career drawing animations, comic books and children’s book. Check it out the full book here on Drawger.
