The London Tube Map – 8 Alternative Versions
I’m heading over to London in a couple of weeks for a short visit and will of course be taking advantage of the Tube. The London Underground Map while hugely iconic has been “reinterpreted” many times by advertisers and just for fun by designers. In the last few months I’ve found I’m really interested in Map design and there’s some fantastic designers out there doing great work. Here’s a bunch of variations on the tube theme, with links back to where they came from.
Sony Walkman advertising campaign with microphone leads.
London Advertising show the countries of the world as stops.
Pedometer Map created for PruHealth to promote healthy lifestyles and walking.
How things would look if each station was sponsored – sponsorship map.
There you have it. Have you seen any good variations on the tube of other maps?

Some nice variations on a theme but hard to beat the original, it works so well on a number of levels.
Enjoy the trip, you have many things you could check out. I wish I’d known of this http://www.museumofbrands.com/ before a recent trip.
If you haven’t got an oyster card already be sure to get one (available on-line), they make for easier travelling.

Hi Heather, thanks. Not going till the start of Oct. Just psyching myself up early.
I agree Fran, the original and the best.
I would like to see a crime tube map featuring such stations as High Street Killing, Mugging Arch and Cattle Rustler square!
I’m still quite a fan of the 1980s / early 1990s versions of the tube map: updated as the service expanded, but without the extra clutter and ugliness the map has acquired more recently. (E.g. see the 1987 version at http://www.markpack.org.uk/how-things-used-to-be-the-london-tube-map-1987/ )

Some great London map variations.
The 3D one is particularly impressive.
