Wallpaper Freebie: Ireland Map

Feb 24, 2009 by     6 Comments    Posted under: Blog, Design Stuff!

This wallpaper started life as a poster for my niece’s school but turned into something a little bit different. Am completely ashamed at how vague I was about the counties in the midlands – I actually live in Westmeath myself, but somewhere between primary school geography and now, they all turned into one county – “Rosleitford”. Anyhoo, this map is now available to download as a wallpaper. It looks better in the larger sizes because you can see the textures on the text and the counties.

  • I really like this map. It would be interesting to see if the catchy typographic treatment makes it easier for kids to learn about the different counties.

  • Hi Tracey, thanks.

Yeah, I was wondering myself because some of the letters of the counties are partially obscured by lakes or clipped at the county borders, so I think you’d need to be a little bit familiar to begin with.

Might take on a world map next!

  • Great wall paper. The textures are wonderful. I don’t mind the clipped letters, to paraphrase David Carson, don’t confuse legibility with communication. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks Devlin!
